Highlands, NC

I went with a friend to Highlands, North Carolina for a long weekend recently.  We went on two hikes…one to a waterfall and one to the top of a mountain.

The waterfall was a multi-level waterfall…Secret Falls.  We hiked over a mile out of the way, but loved every minute of it because the leaves were changing and the weather was perfect.

The next day we hiked up Whiteside Mountain and then came down to a section called Devil’s Courthouse.  The ledge at the Courthouse gave a panoramic view of the most gorgeous yellows, oranges, and greens I’ve ever seen.  It was so peaceful to sit on top of the rock and be surrounded by such amazing views.

For a few minutes at sunset, Whiteside casts a shadow of a bear on the valley below it.  The lookout point was crowded with people watching the small, thin shadow morph into the bear.
